“The problem is, we look for someone to grow old together with, while the secret is to find someone to stay a child with.”
~ Charles Bukowski.
Your inner-child is the core of your soul. It’s happy when it can be curious, playful and accepted good enough as it is. Like a child, it craves mental, emotional, physical and spiritual stimulation to thrive and not be bored to death in the comfort-zone.
Ignoring your inner-child is like ignoring your youthfulness. Thus, it’s your duty to make your inner-child safe by having strict boundaries towards those making you feel less. Protect it as you would protect your own children, while also see to that it gets the “nutritions” it needs to be happy .
