Self-love vs Selfish People

The biggest threat to having sufficient self-love is surrounding yourself with selfish people. I’ve had many sessions with people feeling less worthy, and the common denominator is lack of boundaries towards egoistical people in their vicinity.

Such people are always in it for pursuing the greener grass… for themselves. Everything that glitters like gold, they need to try. They really don’t care about those they step on to get what they want. The more unhealthy their ego gets, the less empathetic they usually are. Hence, they don’t care about boundaries, not for their own morals and, at least, not for other people.

The last decades have shown an increasing amount of narcissism in our society. In the name of YOLO and FOMO, more and more people have stopped being considerate to others, thinking only of themselves.

The problem is when the ego takes over so much that other people, especially the kinder and nicer ones, get taken advantage of and ultimately hurt in the process, even severely weakening their own self-respect.

Hence, in times of the distorted ego, the only working remedy is healthy boundaries. An eye for an eye will make the world go blind, so the answer is not to hurt others since you got hurt. However, strong boundaries and an increasing acknowledgement of how friggin’ awesome selflessness is, especially in times of the ego, will make you realize your worth and how important it is to preserve your self-love. Ultimately, you’ll be a role model for those balancing out the healthy selfishness and selflessness within, by protecting your worth towards toxic people and also continuing to be kind and good to others. The only way egotistical people will learn, is to experience tough boundaries where they once over-stepped easily.

Everyone can increase the amount of self-love they pour into themselves, but it really starts with removing those who drain your persona of energy, worth and smiles.

If the ego wins, we get lots of losers and a few winners. If the heart wins, we get lots of winners and a few losers.

We control the narrative and the future we want.
